Academics – Congratulations to Dans alumni Ricky Bowen (2007) and Greg Houston (2008), who finished the 1st semester at Mississippi State with a perfect 4.0, helping lead the team to an all-time semester-high 3.31 team grade point average. Jason Nappi (2007), named a Dean’s Scholar, helped in that effort as well.
Baseball – Wallace Watch List. Three Danville Dans have been named to the 2009 Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Watch List: San Diego All-American closer, A.J. Griffin (Dans 2007), Dan Black, Purdue Boilermaker (Dans 2007), and LSU standout Louis Coleman (Dans 2006). The Wallace Award is presented annually to the nation’s top collegiate baseball player in conjunction with the College Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremonies to be held July 2nd on the campus of Texas Tech University.
Baseball – Pre-season All-Americans. Four Danville Dans have been named Pre-Season All-Americans. Junior Closer A.J. Griffin of the University of San Diego (Dans 2007) has been named 1st team preseason All-American by the National College Baseball Writers Association. Two LSU Tigers, Louis Coleman (Dans 2006) and Ryan Schimpf (Dans 2007) have been named pre-season all American by Collegiate Baseball Magazine. From Division II, Hamline’s Dan Kaczrowski (Dans 2008) has also been selected Pre-season All American.
