DANS GIVE NOD TO COACHING STAFF

The Danville Dans 2009 coaching staff brings with them 13 years of professional experience.

2008 CICL Coach of the Year, Pete Paciorek, returns for his 3rd season at the helm of the Danville Dans. During Paciorek's tenure, many Dans players have received natonal accolades including: 4 Division I All-Americans, 1 Team USA player, 8 league top professional prospects, and one Player of the Year.

After playing professional baseball in the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers organizations for 9 years, Paciorek began his coaching career at Whittier College before moving to Cal State-Los Angeles, where he helped lead the team to the best overall record in school history. Paciorek comes from a long line of baseball players. His dad, John, holds the MLB career batting average record of 1.000 (3 for 3). He has two uncles (Tom & Jim) who played MLB. His brother Mack and his cousin Tommy also played professional baseball and his cousin Joey is playing in the Milwaukee Brewers' organization.

Pete is currently the Head Coach at Principia College. A San Gabriel, CA native, Pete earned his B.A. in Communication from Cal State LA as well as a Masters in Organizational Communication and Leadership. He and his wife Sara reside in Elsah, IL.

Coach Paciorek will be joined by 2nd year Dans assistant coach, Joe VerPlancke. Joe attended Cal State LA where he was a two sport athlete (soccer and baseball) and was drafted as a pitcher after his junior year by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Verplancke has the distinction of being the very first college player drafted by the Diamondbacks in their inauguaral season in 1996. During his 4 year professional career, Coach VerPlancke was a teammate of 3 former Danville Dans: Chris Michalek, Doug Bedinger, and Justin Kees.

Currently Head Baseball Coach at Diamond Ranch High School (Pomona, Ca.), Verplancke took his team to the California State Div IV Championship game at Dodger Stadium last spring, losing 1-0.

Joe and his wife Erin reside in Corona, CA.

DANS ADD 3 TO ROSTER

The Danville Dans have added three players to their 2009 roster. Joining the Dans will be Air Force Academy cadet Andrew Golz, a left handed pitcher from St. Louis and Kyle Donawerth, a junior LHP (Miami University-Ohio) from Cincinnati, Ohio. Rounding out the roster is Vanderbilt rs-jr LHP/1b Richie Goodenow. Richie played for the Dans last summer, finishing the year with a .259 BA, and a 2.65 ERA.

DANS RELEASE 2009 SCHEDULE

The Danville Dans have released their official 2009 season schedule, featuring 26 home dates at Danville Stadium this summer.

The Dans , who begin their 20th season of play in 2009, will open at home on Thursday, June 4, when they face the DuBois Bombers at 6:30 PM. Following that game, the Dans will hit the road for three games before returning to Danville Stadium to begin a busy month of June. The Dans will play 12 home games in June which will include matchups with 2 of the new east division teams, Butler, PA (Blue Sox) and Slippery Rock, P.A, (Sliders) as well as new west division rival, Hannibal, Missouri (Cavemen).

In all, the Dans will play 52 regular season games, 8 with the East Division and the remainder with the west division. The format of the league’s post season tournament has not been announced, but will be played the 2nd full week of August with all play concluded by August 15.

The Dans are members of the CICL (Central Illinois Collegiate League), which has been rebranded this year as the Prospect League, which better reflects the growth and scope of the league, established in 1963. With 175 major league alumni, the Prospect League showcases the finest collegiate baseball players across the nation. The East Division will consist of the Slippery Rock Sliders (Slippery Rock, PA), Richmond RiverRats, (Richmond, IN), the Lorain Northcoast Knights (Lorain, OH), the Butler Blue Sox (Butler, PA), and the Chillicothe Paints (Chillicothe, OH). West Division teams are the Danville Dans, The Dupage Dragons (Lisle, IL), the Dubois Bombers (Huntingburg, IN), the Springfield Sliders (Springfield, IL), the Quincy Gems (Quincy, IL), and the Hannibal Cavemen (Hannibal, MO.). DANS ANNOUNCE PRE-SEASON ROSTER

The Danville Dans have released a pre-season roster for the 2009 season which includes players from 6 schools ranked in the top 25 Division 1 pre-season polls. From #1 ranked LSU - Austin Nola (SS)and Mikie Mahtook (of). From #6 ranked Arizona State - R.J. Preach (RHP) & Jake Saylor (C). From #8 ranked Louisville - Justin Amblung (RHP. From #11 Mississippi - Bret Huber (RHP). From #17 ranked San Diego - Austin Green (C/OF). From #23, the Pepperdine Waves - Nathan Johnson (c),Cody Yount (3b/1b/dh)and Ryan Van Amburg (of). The remaining roster includes Danville's Dabo Worthington (1B-Southern) and Chris Lewellyn (utility-Austin Peay) along with DACC's Donavan Drake (RHP). Mississippi State Bulldogs Frankie Rowdow (2nd base) & Caleb Reed (RHP)round out SEC schools. Other roster spots go to: Atlanta Christian's Byron Williams (OF former DACC), USC's Ryan Cabral (RHP), Mt San Antonio College Nick Greene (RHP/3b), Mt. San Antonio College Gus Lanuza (LHP), Arkansas State's Jacob Lee (RHP), Macalester College's James Murrey (RHP), and Long Beach State's Aaron Lambrix (RHP). Four other players will be named when contracts are processed bringing the team total to 26 players.

BASEBALL OR ACADEMICS - DANS PILE ON HONORS

Academics – Congratulations to Dans alumni Ricky Bowen (2007) and Greg Houston (2008), who finished the 1st semester at Mississippi State with a perfect 4.0, helping lead the team to an all-time semester-high 3.31 team grade point average. Jason Nappi (2007), named a Dean’s Scholar, helped in that effort as well.

BaseballWallace Watch List. Three Danville Dans have been named to the 2009 Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Watch List: San Diego All-American closer, A.J. Griffin (Dans 2007), Dan Black, Purdue Boilermaker (Dans 2007), and LSU standout Louis Coleman (Dans 2006). The Wallace Award is presented annually to the nation’s top collegiate baseball player in conjunction with the College Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremonies to be held July 2nd on the campus of Texas Tech University.

Baseball – Pre-season All-Americans. Four Danville Dans have been named Pre-Season All-Americans. Junior Closer A.J. Griffin of the University of San Diego (Dans 2007) has been named 1st team preseason All-American by the National College Baseball Writers Association. Two LSU Tigers, Louis Coleman (Dans 2006) and Ryan Schimpf (Dans 2007) have been named pre-season all American by Collegiate Baseball Magazine. From Division II, Hamline’s Dan Kaczrowski (Dans 2008) has also been selected Pre-season All American.
